Project Overview:
Rawwy was commissioned to develop an official Roblox game experience as a movie tie-in for "Timur: The Rescue," the action film by acclaimed director Iko Uwais, produced by Uwais Pictures. Serving as the project coordinator and development lead, Rawwy managed the end-to-end creation of the game — from initial concept and game design documentation through to launch on the Roblox platform. The game was designed to extend the film's narrative, immersing players in a military rescue scenario inspired by the hostage crisis depicted in the film, and was timed to coincide with the movie's theatrical release in December 2025.
Objective:
To create an engaging, multi-mode Roblox experience that authentically captures the spirit of the Timur film, drives awareness for the theatrical release, and provides a compelling interactive extension of the movie's universe for Indonesia's massive Roblox player base.
Challenges:
Tight Production Timeline: The game needed to be developed, tested, and launched within a compressed timeline to align with the film's theatrical release window, requiring precise milestone management and rapid iteration cycles.
Authentic IP Representation: Balancing faithful representation of a film based on a real historical event with engaging Roblox gameplay mechanics, ensuring cultural sensitivity while delivering an exciting player experience.
Multi-Platform Performance: Optimizing the experience for mobile-first Indonesian audiences on mid-range devices while maintaining visual quality across PC and mobile platforms, targeting a minimum of 30 FPS on mobile.
Roblox Compliance: Navigating Roblox's strict sponsored content and advertising policies for a movie tie-in experience, including proper disclosure requirements, age-appropriate content gating for film trailers, and brand guideline adherence.
Process:
Pre-Production & Game Design: Developed a comprehensive Game Design Document (GDD) in coordination with the creative agency and film studio, defining game modes, asset requirements, and the overall player experience narrative.
Development Coordination: Managed development house through a structured milestone-based process with defined approval gates, asset inventories, and quality benchmarks. Coordinated character modeling, rigging, animation (59 total animations), environment building, and AI programming.
Multi-Mode Gameplay Design: Designed and implemented four distinct game modes — a cooperative Hostage Escort mission, a PvP Camp Defense mode, and two Mountain Obstacle Courses (Hike & Downhike) — each with unique mechanics, providing diverse gameplay to maximize replayability.
Economy & Progression Systems: Built a balanced in-game economy using "Timur Tokens" with carefully scaled earning rates across all game modes, a tiered cosmetic shop (clothing and tactical items), and an achievement-based aura unlock system to incentivize both casual and hardcore players.
Launch & Compliance: Ensured full compliance with Roblox sponsored content policies, implemented age-gated promotional content (film trailers visible only to 13+ verified users), and coordinated the launch to align with the film's December 2025 theatrical debut.
Outcome:
Rawwy successfully delivered a polished, multi-mode Roblox experience that served as an effective promotional vehicle for the Timur film. The game featured authentic Indonesian-inspired environments, engaging cooperative and competitive gameplay, and seamless integration of film promotional content within Roblox's compliance framework. The experience attracted thousands of visits post-launch, with strong player engagement metrics and a 80%+ like ratio, demonstrating the viability of Roblox as a movie marketing platform in the Indonesian market.
